There is also the European wheel or the Single Zero roulette or sometimes French Rouletteis similar to the American wheel.
The fact that European wheel only has a single zero - whereas American wheel has a single zero and a double zero, makes the biggest difference between these two.
As the red/black and odd/even are placed right next to each other, and the first18/last18 betting spots are placed right next to the single numbers on the american table it is more practical during the game, but the European table is more more beautiful in symmetry.
Thanks to the single zero the European roulette players have better odds than the American roulette players.
There 38 numbered slots on American roulette wheel: numbers from 0 to 36 and 00. The betting layout consists of every individual number as well as a host of "outside" or combinations of numbers. After the players make their bets the dealer spins the wheel and a ball and after several seconds the ball will land in one of the numbered slots.

If you have ever played Roulette you know that there is a certain period of time, in which players are allowed to make bets. The time between two spins is about 60 seconds. For this 60 seconds players have to make bets. Players have a few seconds after the dealer spins the wheel. When the dealer raises his hands and says "no more bets", you must refrain from making a bet and wait until the next spin of the wheel. When the balls drops into a slot on the roulette wheel, the dealer will place a marker on the table that corresponds with the slot that the ball dropped into. Then the dealer removes all the losing bets from the table. Then the winners get paid and the marker is removed from the table. Players are not allowed to touch their chips during this time, or else they could be removed from the casino. Try to be polite and courteous. Make sure that you are respectful to the dealer and the people around you, and also offer the dealer a small tip every 10th spin or so. The last advice here is avoid drinking alchocol.

1. Stick to one and the same table. Otherwise the luck will leave you.
2. After you see your favourite number hit three times, change it, and play another for at least five spins to get a change.
3. Gambling is not a good way out if you are in a bad mood. If you go to casino with such a mood, you will only be disappointed because karma will join your mood and you will win nothing. Gambling goes well with a good mood.
4. If you fight with your woman or man at the table t is a sign of bad luck. So make sure you don’t.
5. You lucky number will help you, so choose it!

The numbers 1 through 36 are divided evenly among red and black "pockets" on the Roulette wheel. The ball will land in one of the pockets. The Roulette wheel also has on or two green pockets. The green pockets has numbers 0 and 00 or only 00, depending on the kind of Roulette.
When all bets are made the dealer spins the wheel counter clockwise and then the ball is released along the track. As the wheel loses velocity the ball is pulled down off of the track and bounces around until it settles into a pocket.

» Have you heard the story of the craziest gambler? In 1994 he decided to fulfill his dream in the casino of Las Vegas on the Roulette wheel. Chris had saved $220,000 over a three year period, and wanted to put it all on one spin of the wheel. It wasn’t very easy to find a casino that would let him make such a huge bet. With refusals from most of the major casinos, Chris was referred to Binion’s Horseshoe Club. The maximum bet available was $100,000, but the casino let him make a $200,000 bet. The casino also agreed to block out the double-zero on the wheel as this didn’t exist in the European version of the game that Chris was used to playing. Chris chose to place his bet on red. The casino and the dealer agreed to a few practice spins to ensure that full fairness for everyone concerned, and then the big spin came. The ball landed in number 7, red. Chris was the winner, he won $220,000 and he promised never to play at casino again.
