» Casino Roulette Rules

Roulette is the most popular of casino games. Luxury, passion and simple rules are the factors that make roulette so popular. The world 'roulette' means 'a small wheel' in French. It was Blaise Pascal who introduced the primitive version of this game in the 17th century. Later the single zero Roulette appeared. It was introduced by Francois and Louis Blanc. The game wasn't then very popular in France as any form of gambling was considered illegal, but Roulette was well-known in Germany and Hamburg. Later the game of Roulette was brought back to France and the Prince of Monaco loved this game a lot. The game of Roulette was brought to the USA at the beginning of the 19th century. Some additional features were deleted and the game got a double zero back. The game of Roulette attracted a lot of American gamblers.

Roulette is a wheel game. The wheel placed in a bowl spins on an axis. There are 37 or 38 numbered slots on the wheel, an American roulette wheel contains 38 slots, a European roulette wheel - 37.The numbers can be black or red. The 0 and 00 are considered green.Up to 8 people can play roulette at the same time. The rules suggest that the croupier spins the wheel of roulette in one direction and then rolls the ball around the edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. When the ball stops and falls at one of the slots the croupier announces the winners. The aim of roulette is to guess the number of the slot in which the ball will stop and to make the right bet. When you start the the game at the roulette table, you have to buy chips from the croupier which differ from all other chips in the casino. Each player is assigned his own color of chips so that the croupier knows who to pay off at the end of each spin. A player is allowed to bet until the croupier announces, "No more bets."After the ball had stopped, the croupier puts a marker on top of the winning number on the table. If there are bets on that number, the marker is placed on top of the chips. Then all losing bets are swept off the table before the winning bets are paid off.
In some casinos there exist some special rules.

In Prison/En prison
In case the ball stops at zero slot, the croupier will not collect red/black, odd/even and first half/last half bets, they will stay on the table - in other words they are in prison. In the next spin the players have a chance of winning their original bet back - if their bet wins they will get their original bet back but with no additional win. If the ball should land on zero once again the bets will remain in prison one more spin and so on. As this special rule reduced the casinos edge, it's greatly to the advantage for the players.

La Partage
When the ball falls on zero, red/black, odd/even and first half/last half bets will not be fully collected by the croupier. The croupier will collect only a half of player's bets and will return the rest to the players. As well as the In Prison rule, the La Partage rule also reduces the casinos edge to only 1.35%.

» The most famous roulette story has to be that of Chris Boyd, a 40 year-old computer programmer from England. In 1994 he decided to fulfill his dream in the casino of Las Vegas on the Roulette wheel. Chris managed to save up $220,000 and he decided to put it on one spin of the wheel. He searched around Las Vegas for a casino that would actually take his bet. Most casinos refused him. The last casino he visited was Binion’s Horseshoe Club. The Horseshoe Club had a limit of $100,000 on a red/black bet, but they agreed to accept his wager. The casino also agreed to block out the double-zero on the wheel as this didn’t exist in the European version of the game that Chris was used to playing. Chris decided to place his be on red. To make sure that everything is fair Chris was allowed to have several practice spins before playing for real money. The ball was spinned and it landed in 7,red. Chris was the winner, he won $220,000 and he promised never to play at casino again.
