In roulette everything depends on luck. Trying to keep the house edge to a minimum is almost all you can do from a strategic point of view. There are special rules in casinos which directly affect on the edge.
The 'surrender' option is the first strategy to know. This rule is applied to outside bets such as odd/even, red/black, and high/low. In case the ball falls on 0 or 00 you lose half your bet,but not the whole betting. The house edge considerably depends on this;after all it is the 0 and 00 which account for the high house edge in the first place. Of course, the payoffs aren't as great for outside bets, but simply by finding a table with the ‘surrender' rule, you are improving your odds substantially.
Rather interesting point is the 0 and 00. It is better to look out for tables with only one 0 , or European tables. Such tables which were primarily found in Europe offer a much more attractive house edge from the player's point of view. The house edge is reduced from 5.26% to 2.7% when you play on a European table. Physically European roulette tables are found more often in Europe, but in the ‘online world’ gambling they are just a click away.

Roulette is a wheel game. The wheel placed in a bowl spins on an axis. The wheel is divided into slots: American roulette wheel into 38, European - into 37.There are black and red numbers. The 0 and 00 are considered green.8 players can participate the game at the same time. The rules suggest that the croupier spins the wheel of roulette in one direction and then rolls the ball around the edge of the wheel in the opposite direction. When the ball stops and falls at one of the slots the croupier announces the winners. You are to guess the number of the slot in which the ball will stop and to make the right bet. When you first sit down at a roulette table, you'll need to buy chips from the croupier, and roulette chips are almost always different from all other chips in the casino. Each player is assigned his own color of chips so that the croupier knows who to pay off at the end of each spin. Players can make their bets until the croupier announces, "No more bets."After the ball had stopped, the croupier puts a marker on top of the winning number on the table. If there are bets on that number, the marker is placed on top of the chips. The croupier sweeps off the table all losing bets and pays off the winning bets.
In some casinos there exist some special rules.

In Prison/En prison
In case the ball stops at zero slot, the croupier will not collect red/black, odd/even and first half/last half bets, they will stay on the table - in other words they are in prison. In the next spin the players have a chance of winning their original bet back - if their bet wins they will get their original bet back but with no additional win. If it's zero again the bets remain in prison one more time and so on. In prison rule is a considerable advantage for players because the house edge is reduced to 1.35%.

La Partage
When the ball falls on zero, red/black, odd/even and first half/last half bets will not be fully collected by the croupier. The croupier will collect only a half of player's bets and will return the rest to the players. As well as the In Prison rule, the La Partage rule also reduces the casinos edge to only 1.35%.

There are 36 numbers, which are divided among red or black pockets on the Roulette wheel. The pocket is the container that a ball may come to rest in. Depending on the Roulette variation there is one or two green pockets with 0 or 0 and 00.
The Roulette wheel is spun by the dealer in the counter clockwise direction and then he releases a plastic ball along the top of the wheel’s cavity. As the wheel loses velocity the ball is pulled down off of the track and bounces around until it settles into a pocket.

» Joe and Dolly Hornick of Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania, could be the luckiest couple in the world, at least when it comes to winning money. Last June the Lottery brought them $206,000. Three weeks passed and they won another $21,000. And they had previous lottery scores of $2.5 million in 1989 and $68,000 in 1997. There's more to their good monetary fortune: After their June lottery bonanza they visited the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City and between the two of them hit jackpots of $480 (twice), $980, and $1,375. They list other slot scores of $9,970, $10,700, and $2,000 in recent years. On a trip to Florida they stopped off at a gas station, bought some scratch-off lottery tickets, and won $6,673. Joe would only give this tip: ‘It takes a buck and a lot of luck.’
