In the world of casino games, roulette is a classic. Along with blackjack and craps, roulette is a mainstay in any full service casino in the United States, and the game is even more popular in Europe, where it's a cultural and historical part of the gambling scene. Roulette has been played in Europe since the 18th century, and online roulette games are popular now all over the world.Modern roulette has been around since at least 1796, when the game was played in Paris in almost exactly the same form it's played today. Roulette had its origins in multiple other games. An Italian ball game called "biribi" was also popular in France in the early 18th century, and it was combined with another wheel game that involved colors but not numbers to make a modern roulette game. "Roly-poly" was an English game launched in 1720 which consisted of black and white slots. So roulette could possibly be considered a hybrid of both birib and Roly-poly.Understanding a game is the first step down the road of enjoying a game. And although knowledge of the game won't change your strategy or your chances of winning, it will increase the amount of pleasure you take away from the tables.

Another type of roulette is the European wheel which is also known as the Single Zero roulette or sometimes French Roulette and it's resembles the American wheel.
The European wheel has only a single zero while the American one has a single zero and a double zero, and that is main difference between them.
As the red/black and odd/even are placed right next to each other, and the first18/last18 betting spots are placed right next to the single numbers on the american table it is more practical during the game, but the European table is more more beautiful in symmetry.
The European single zero offers the player better odds than the American wheel with it’s single and double zero.
American roulette wheel is divided into 38 numbered slots:numbers 0 to 36 and 00. The betting layout consists of every individual number as well as a host of "outside" or combinations of numbers. After the players make their bets the dealer spins the wheel and a ball and after several seconds the ball will land in one of the numbered slots.

Jagger’s Wheel.
Of course there always exists a chance that the wheel is not balanced well. That’s why there are unfair gamblers who use it if they notice that the wheel is unbalanced. But nowadays even if you try hard you will never find such a wheel. The story of Jaggers is well-known among casinos, that’s why they examine the wheels all the time. The wheel is checked several times before it is open to public. If the casinos discover an unbalanced wheel, they immediately recalibrate it.
2. Another myth is that as more spins occur, players have a better opportunity of hitting a number that has not been hit yet.
It is a mistake. The chances of hitting any number is 38:1. Just because the number seven has not hit for hours, does not mean it will hit soon. Remember roulette is a game of chance and the odds are the same for every number with every spin of the wheel.

Today most gambling house odds have to be either 34 to 1 or 35 to 1. It means that the casino pays you or and you get to save your original bet.
The casino average or house advantage is the amount the player loses compared to any bet made, on average. In case if a player bets on one number in the American game there is a possibility of 1/38 that the player wins 35 times the bet, and a 37/38 chance that the player loses his bet.
The existence of the green squares are technically the only house advantage. Outside bets always lose in case if one or double zero come up. However, the casino also has an advantage on inside bets since the pay outs are always set at 35 to 1 in case if you mathematically have a 37 to 1 probability at winning a straight bet on one number.
The house advantage should not be mixed up with the hold. The hold is the amount of money the table takes to change for chips, minus the chips taken away from the table. The Casino Control Commission in Atlantic City releases a monthly account showing the win/hold amounts. The average win/hold for double zero wheels is 21-30%, more than 5.26%/2.70% of all players money since players are making repeated bets after winning and losing portions of their all money. It is called in the casino gaming industry as "Churning" and is mainly true of slot machine players who statistically end up losing all their bets.
A player with a certain total amount of money can not win or lose all his money very quickly, since the bets they make will be more than the sum of the money they really started with. The house advantage is applied to each bet made and not the all money. It means the player can end up losing much more than 5.26% of his original money.

» Have you heard the story of the craziest gambler? In 1994 he decided to fulfill his dream in the casino of Las Vegas on the Roulette wheel. Chris managed to save up $220,000 and he decided to put it on one spin of the wheel. He searched around Las Vegas for a casino that would actually take his bet. With refusals from most of the major casinos, Chris was referred to Binion’s Horseshoe Club. The Horseshoe Club had a limit of $100,000 on a red/black bet, but they agreed to accept his wager. The casino also agreed to block out the double-zero on the wheel as this didn’t exist in the European version of the game that Chris was used to playing. Chris decided to place his be on red. To make sure that everything is fair Chris was allowed to have several practice spins before playing for real money. The ball was spinned and it landed in 7,red. Chris won $220,000 instantly, and asked for the money to be put into the casinos cage, and vowed never to gamble again.
